Crypto Stamp Generation II

Begining on May 20, 2020, at 12:50(UTC+1) the Austrian Post AG launched the presale of the second edition of its highly sought after cryptophilately collectors item, the Crypto stamp 2.0.

The new edition has a limited edition of 240,000 copies. These will be divided into 4 equal parts of 60,000 pieces, with either a honey badger, a llama, a panda or a doge as motif.

The online shop of Austrian Post has collapsed due to the huge rush. All stamps were sold out within a very short period of time. The most popular motif was apparently the doge.

The delivery date of the stamps started on 25 June. From that day on, the stamps will be available at Österreichische Post AG's retail outlets at a price of € 7.00, while stocks last, of course.

Packaging & quality

The newly purchased stamp is packed in a cartoon packaging with a security seal on it. This should make it impossible to check the contents in advance, nevertheless there is still a away to look inside the package without destroying the seal.
On the front of the card is a motif and a QR code that can be removed completely. On the back is the unique ID of the stamp. There is also a large security label that covers the "Secret Word List". This list is also displayed within a QR Code, making it easier to transfer the secret code to your device.
Unlike the first generation, paper was used instead of plastic. This has negative consequences, firstly the card is very easily damaged and you can illuminate the card with light, which allows you to get the private word phrase without damaging the card.

Motifs

60.000 Doge

An internet phenomenon established in 2013 featuring a Shiba Inu dog that inspired the image on the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.

60.000 Honeybadge

The small but fearless honey badger is associated with Bitcoin Cash, the fourth-largest cryptocurrency.

60.000 Panda

The popular and somewhat awkward bear is THE animal for traders from the Asia-Pacific region.

60.000 Llama

The animal is associated with one of the first products that could be bought with Bitcoin - Llama wool socks from Massachusetts.

999 Golden Unicorn

Successful start-ups valued at least one billion US dollars are called “unicorns”. The unicorn is also considered the heraldic animal of the Ethereum community.

Different Attributes

The stamp is a regular, usable stamp that has a digital counterpart, a so-called crypto token, as a bonus. Unlike the physical stamp that always looks the same (except possible misprints), the token comes in different colors, all of which can be found in different quantities in the series

The digital counterparts color can be researched with the help of the information printed on all stamps via the blockchain based portal of the Austrian Post (specially created for this purpose). To do this, either you can scan the QR code printed on the crypto stamp or type the stamps four to six-digit code into the search field provided on the Post website.

QR Code

Scan the QR code printed on the face of the crypto stamp to view the one of a kind digital version of the collectible.

Different Stamp Colors

The digital token of the crypto stamp comes in five different colored versions. These are black (the most common one), green, blue, yellow and red(the rarest of them all).

Digital Wallet

The digital wallet holds the Ethereum based counterpart of the physical crypto stamp, including a small amount of ETH.

High Quality

The choosen medium for the physical stamp were premium quality credit card-sized plastic cards, optically finished with hologram foils and provided with the highest possible security standards available.

Limited Amount

The first edition crypto stamp production run was limited to a whopping 240,000 pieces which sold out in a matter of days.

Exclusive Edition

The most exclusive and unique edition of the stamp was given away at the Austrian Post kick off event, sporting an aditional print with a special date seal on its face.

The Digital Wallet

As experienced collectors already know from last year's edition, the digital counterpart to the physical object, the ETH-based token, is again stored on an Ethereum digital wallet. A crypto-browser extension like "MetaMask" is needed to access and send the token. A simple view of the contents of the crypto-wallet can be taken by using services like etherscan.

The location of the public and private keys for access to the collection token has been moved from the front (hidden under two scratch fields in the first edition) to the back of the physical object (now under a non-transparent security label). In the second edition, the Ethereum Wallet was not topped up with a small amount of ETH.

Crypto stamp - OnChain

OnChain sales have changed significantly compared to the sale of the first issue in June, 2019. In the first issue, only 500 stamps were reserved for Ethereum-based on-chain sales. This has changed to 10,000 stamps in this year's sale. And this time there was a pre-sale, which allowed you to reserve your favourite stamps before the official release date, 25 June 2020.

These 10,000 pieces are divided into four motifs of 2,500 each, which refer to the four animal motifs printed on the stamp, the honey badger, the llama, the panda and the doge. And unlike the first sale, the ID's associated with the stamps are not known to the buyer in advance. Also unlike the first time, the price for the entire batch of crypto stamps available onChain is fixed at the fixed amount of € 7.00 each, which could be one reason why all presale stamps with the doge motif are sold out around two and a half hours after the start of sales.
